German-Style Pork Chops with Red Cabbage Recipe
Ingredients:
6 pcs of pork chops (center loin, 1/2-inch thick)
2 tsps of oil (vegetable oil)
1 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of sage (dried)
1/4 tsp of thyme (dried)
1/8 tsp of pepper (black)
2/3 c of water
2 pcs of bacon slices; cut into 1 inch pieces
4 c of cabbage (red); shredded coarsely
1 c of onion; sliced
1/2 c of water
1/4 c of vinegar
1/4 c of sugar (brown)
1 c of pears; sliced
Instructions:
Heat the oil on a skillet above moderately high heat. Cook the chops till browned; sprinkle sage, salt, pepper, and thyme. Add 2/3 cup of water and cover then cook above moderately low heat for 50-60 mins till pork becomes tender.
Cook the bacon inside a (Dutch) oven till crisp then add the onions and cabbage. Cook above moderate heat for 5 mins; stir occasionally. Add half cup of water, sugar, and vinegar; mix thoroughly and cover. Let it simmer for 15 mins then add the pears till boiling.
Serve the chops above the cabbage.
